Aside from health, the Bulls need a couple players to step up their game in order to be a serious playoff team and not just one series and out.Kirk Hinrich is the poster child of someone who needs to step it up. Now finally we are seeing a possible Ted vs Cody vs RKO feud Granted I still don’t want this to be a WM26 main event …. Hopefully people like Vince Young and Terrelle Pryor can succeed and be great and open the door for acceptance of everybody simply just based on their talents. 6. (Emphasis added)Based on our experience regulating professional boxing in New York and on conversations with top regulators from more than a dozen other states that regulate MMA, I believe this sport, when properly regulated, will provide New Yorkers with financial and sports entertainment value while maintaining high standards regarding the safety and health of participants. The governor has made the right decision in his effort to bring MMA to New York.” (Emphasis added.

Returning two starters to the defense next year is going to be a problem, no matter how you slice it. No one?s shooting unless we?re doing it as a result of attacking the rim.Prediction I couldn?t begin to tell you Texas could get beat by 20 or win going away. Players such as Miguel Montero, Jorge Posada, Bengie Molina, and Kurt Suzuki are being draft 20-60 spots ahead of Soto, which makes him an amazing value because he is due for a very nice bounce-back season in 2010.Don’t forget to check out other articles in this series on Clayton Kershaw , Alexei Ramirez , and Ian Stewart .For more fantasy baseball analysis, check out Baseball Professor. Plus, the defense will be very inexperienced, losing Brandon Graham and Donovan Warren. But the Wolverines always play well at home, and expect a dogfight in the Big House against a team fighting for its reputation and another trying to make a name for itself.  No. They would be smart to tweak it slightly, build on what they have, and next year, maybe win a division title away from Bill Belicheck.Until then, the Super Bowl should be very entertaining Next week I’ll preview the big game.. in 2009, Lester’s stat line looked like this: 32 GS 203.1 IP 15 W 225 K 3.41 ERA 1.23 WHIP Compare that with Rodriguez’s: 33 GS 205.2 IP 14 W 193 K 3.45 ERA 1.12 WHIP While Lester does have an advantage of 32 strikeouts, if you spread that out over the number of games pitched, it boils down to only one extrastrikeout per game.If you look back on Rodriguez’s career numbers, you’ll notice that he has always carried a good strikeout per innings pitched ratio So, its certainly probable that that trend will continue. It was very efficient and we got a lot of work in a short amount of time.”Thus far, it may only be pitchers and catchers reporting, but Mills is liking what he’s seeing as the Astros aim to turn things around in 2010.“I loved the energy level and how they went about their business,” Mills told McTaggart upon splitting up the pitching workout into groups “I only saw this side of camp.

You knew it wouldn’t be long before someone like MTV discovered these two and immediately started exploiting them. The top pound-for-pound fighter in the world against the most avoided fighter on the boxing landscape is a tantalising prospect, but in actuality, it would be a great disappointment. The length and activity of “The Punisher” would make this a mismatch in my opinion. True, he spent time on the practice squad in his first season, but he’s been hurt for much of the last two.Given that a primary reason for this might be the speedy back’s constant struggles with weight, the problem seems to be self-induced. Â Bradshaw was a part of an NFL in which a defense could break a WR legs just before the catch, and the Aikman/Marino era was in a time of offensive time limit. The thing is folks, today’s NFL is a lot of different from our Grandmothers NFL.

Therefore, his simulation could not take an RKO, Tombstone or whatever else. This one simple move will blow everything up and the Eagles are back to square one.Not So. I don’t even know why these cheerleaders have pom poms. He’s had moderate success for Atlanta but a bad 2008 which found him non-tendered. Mayo and Rudy Gay.The Memphis Commercial Appeal is reporting that the Brewer deal was prompted by a failed attempt to trade for Miami’s Dorell Wright.. Most people will be surprised that he isn’t number one or two but I feel that he just belongs at number three. His 42 goals this year has him tied for first, and is already a personal best for him.He has 36 assists to go along with the 42 goals for a point total of 78 (3rd).The voters love big goal totals and it is possible with a big second half he surges to the top of the MVP race and picks up his second MVP trophy. Roberto Mancini has not won over many with his brand of defensive football, but it has made their defense more solid. However, if Carlos Tevez isn’t scoring and Emmanuel Adebayor is disinterested, then where will the goals come from? Craig Bellamy? Shaun Wright-Phillips? Stephen Ireland? City will not have enough firepower to get them to fourth.

Teams that rely on strategy and schemes, or center what they do around a single player or position, will face matchup and consistency problems in attempting to win three games against top 8 competition. The result of this will not surprisingly be a “the rich getting richer” factor. Terms like “ballhog” and “showboat” getting linked to Bryant’s name is something Lakers fans have lived with and it was a great development that “leader” and “winner” have replaced them in the last couple of years. What’s also ironic is that in the last possession of the game, Kobe passed on a shot and let Ron Artest, of all people, to bail the Lakers out on a last second shot. Put a few more pounds on Jessel Curry and he will take over with no problem I expect to see this guy make an impact by the 2012 season.  His diving stop in Game 1 of the ‘06 NLDS set the tone for that team and spurred them on to a title. However, Vina was the best of a rotating cast of characters  Second basemen don’t stay long in St.

Pirlo orchestrated the game from the middle and his set pieces were of the highest level. At the back, Nesta made a decent return from injury. LSUIs it baseball season yet?  SEC Game Predictions TuesdayKentucky over Ole Miss WednesdayGeorgia over ArkansasVanderbilt over Miss State ThursdayFlorida over AlabamaTennessee over LSU. With his size, he projects to hold up a bit better in the NFL. The Braves need higher than that for their quick lead-off man. UGA fans never got that wish to come true, but they will in 2010.It’s never good for a coach who’s on the hot seat to have an untested QB, but Gray is a dual threat quarterback who actually returned punts his freshman season in Athens and got some reps as a backup in 2009.Though he looked shaky under center in 2009, he’ll have to win quickly for the Dawgs, as they desperately need production from him immediately. It was a good run for Jim Grobe and the Demon Deacons. They won an ACC championship in 2006.They won games they weren?t supposed to win and had the program at a level it had never reached or sustained before. Now it?s time to return to earth. The talent that took Wake to the Orange Bowl is gone, and the recruiting classes that followed their conference title season have been lackluster at best. After Maryland, Wake Forest is the team that Clemson is not supposed to lose to.This is a team that is capable of scaring someone at best (Miami in 2009).They shouldn’t be up to the task of beating a focused Clemson squad in anything close to late season form.. ?We got our heads down at the end of the first half; we also missed a lot of good shots the first quarter.

The fact that Utah is rested, and that Denver will be playing this game one day after taking on the Los Angeles Lakers, should enable the Jazz – relatively free from jet lag and stress – to thump Denver on Saturday night.Online basketball betting pick: Jazz    . With the absence of Stewart Bradley, opponents took advantage of the team’s need to rotate personnel to mask deficiencies. But if he chooses to retire or to sign with another team, that’s something they’ll simply have to do.. He just did this little jiggle-wiggle move with his legs.Check it out: Nice, right? Am I right? Johnson ended his career nicely, too, with 337 catches for over 3,000 yards and 25 touchdowns He also had a combined number of about 6,000 return yards. Johnston came to Boston in 1962 after stints in the Quebec Junior Hockey League and the Western Hockey League.

Everything always does.” This article was originally featured on fiveknuckles . She has started a new underwear line called Kiss My Tiara, and she hopes to expand to other lingerie in the future. Milan lacked bite in the midfield and ran out of gas in the second half. The Ivorian has now played in mid-field, in defence and in attack. Chances are, when she gets to California, Danica will still struggle initially. Unfortunately, the best available safeties are Chad Jones of LSU and Nate Allen of South Florida, neither of who are first round picks right now. 22. New England Patriots – Carlos Dunlap – DE – FloridaThe Pats need to get after the QB and get younger on defense.

Most of us here are Mexican and our parents did not have money for vitamins. South Carolina’s Stephen Garcia saw a quick maturation last season from average to amazing as he became the field general that the Ol’ Ball Coach always envisioned him to be. After each game, a ruby Trojan or an emerald shamrock is added to the club. He led eight drives in the fourth quarter to win the game this year.

Add in the fact that his efforts aided the Packers in trouncing the Kansas City Chiefs, 35-10, and you’ve got McGee at lucky No 5. 4. 1 – Dexter Fowler2 – Clint Barmes3 – Todd Helton4 – Troy Tulowitzki5 – Brad Hawpe6 – Carlos Gonzalez7 – Ian Stewart8 – Chris IannettaLast Year Runs Scored: 804Key Additions: Paul LoDuca, Melvin Mora, Miquel Olivo, and Jay PaytonKey Losses: Garrett Atkins, Matt Murton, and Yorvit TorrealbaAnalysis:Since joining the NL, the Rockies always provided a team loaded with offense. He would hit a lucky free throw with the ball bouncing off the back of the rim and rolling in, bringing out a smile for the first time in the game from this fierce competitor. Just like he did when he scored the game-winner to give Russia their second consecutive World Championships title in 2009.**UPDATE: Since writing this, Radulov scored the second goal for Russia during their 8-2 victory over Latvia..

Either running back would be greatprospects for offensive rookie of the year and solid draft prospects forfantasy teams.Such a scenario would be a welcome departure from lastyear, where rookies Knowshon Moreno, Beanie Wells, LeSean McCoy, andDonald Brown were all selected and chucked into committee situations. What To Watch From The Jets While opponents have shut down Jets star running back Thomas Jones to just 71 yards rushing on 29 attempts in New York’s two playoff wins, rookie Shonn Greene has become the hot hand for them to lean on. Much like Buffalo does with their big horned fuzzy friend, Washington can’t seem to make a sports franchise without coloring it red, white, and blue and throwing stars and stripes all over the place. And, what the heck is a National? Not only that, but they have more problems. But [the grin fading a bit] I do consider myself a mixed martial artist and part of that is respecting your opponent. As a freshman he averaged almost 26ppg and 11rpg which is just amazing for a kid out of the D.C. 3 Oklahoma, with a blowout of Oregon State in the Las Vegas bowl. The future looks bright for BYU, who completely outclassed the rest of the conference, and much of the rest of the country, with their recruiting class.BYU is the unquestioned confererence champion of National Signing Day 2010.The one suprise for BYU was BYU dropping Kona Schwenke’s (Four Star DE) scholarship offer because he took a visit to Notre Dame.

This year, after another disappointment, it wasproselytizing; saying your teammates have forgotten the three fundamentals faith, family, and football is patronizing at best. Now I know my comments are heresy to most of the Bolts faithful. It is likely that the Steelers will franchise tag him for the 2010 season. He’s not unfamiliar to the role, as he played some wideout in 2007, racking up 459 yards on 30 catches (15.3 ypc) He’s an exceptional athlete with a ton of upside. When 2008 ended, Eric Mangini was fired, and a new head coach Rex Ryan was brought in.

An intelligent offensive linemen and a two time Academic All Big-12 team selection. Federer managed to pull the 3rd set back by winning it on a tiebreaker, from that point onwards the Swissmaestro had the momentum as he won the 4th set to level the match at 2 sets all. He once said you can’t judge a team’s draft until two or three years down the road. However, he did have an above average record of 94-71. It was in the postseason where Troy Aikman made his mark. After that, there doesn’t appear to be much else for Philly to do. There are still a few players who relish what it denotes and what it represents, but still others are refraining from playing. Some of the bigger names including Pittsburgh’s Roethlisberger, New England’s Tom Brady, and Minnesota’s Brett Favre have pulled out due to season hangovers and fear of unnecessary injuries. The trend is making the Pro Bowl look like an NFL Pop Warner exhibition and it’s quickly turning the league’s all-star game into nothing more than a footnote in the wake of common cable programming. Solutions to problems like this are never easily found nor are they easily executed. Campbell is the best offensive lineman on the board at this point..

Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark each caught over 100 passes this season, and the arrival and development of Pierre Garcon has really caught the eye.Hailing from the footballing wilderness of Mount Union in Ohio, Garcon was a sixth-round draft pick in 2008.

The pressure’s on for him to make his move and prove to Houston that he’s far more than a utility player or a career journeyman. But would you really be that surprised if the Terps lost? If so, you shouldn’t be. All the lights go off, lights start going everywhere, then plays loud music and a video of Kentucky basketball that always takes me to my basketball memories of UK. The players start to be called out, one at a time, each coming out to a standing ovation from the crowd and chest bumps from the team. To see video highlights of this game and more http:// This article is also featured on Puck Video The Hockey Blog..

It was a relatively small crash though and Vonn was not hurt. The fall handed the victory to France’s Tessa Worley who hung on to her first-run lead and cruised to her second career victory. http:// The Roma-born tactician knows how to get the best out his players, who now even manage to collect the points independent of their performances.Ranieri?s introduction of Julio Sergio between the sticks has been a stroke of brilliance, considering the phenomenal form the ?world?s best third-choice goalkeeper? has showcased this season after having spent some three years in obscurity. On top of that, the back four have been showcasing consistent performances with little to no rotation as Marco Cassetti, Juan, Nicolas Burdisso, and John Arne Riise can be found in a very consistent and solid defense?as well as getting on thescore sheet every once in a while. In the midfield, there are players such as the Roman warrior Daniele De Rossi, who does nothing to diminish his status of becoming the club?s next bandiera. Maybe at safety, he will prove once again how valuable he is. If Shanahan doesn’t think Campbell is a franchise QB, watch out for Sam Bradford from Oklahoma.#5 Kansas City (5-11): DT Gerald McCoy, OklahomaMcCoy possibly could have been the first defensive lineman chosen in last year’s draft had he declared early, but he is still a top 10 lock. “I don’t know about mistake; at the time we felt like he could add something to our team,” Thompson said.

Yes, he did struggle against a very tough Cowboys defense that finished the regular season with two consecutive shutouts. However, it was unfair for everyone to immediately call for McNabb’s time in Philadelphia to come to an end after both losses to the Cowboys when the team clearly needed help in not only the running game, but on defense as well. There were many recruits whose names we never heard while Kiffin was running the show.Guys like S Eddrick Loften, WR Justin Hunter, RB Rajion Neal, and LB John Propst were never in the discussion until Dooley came to town. The bulk of the remaining guys from the group Kiffin had assembled, however, were held intact by two of Kiffin’s assistants.LB’s coach Lance Thompson and offensive coordinator Jim Chaney held the nucleus of the class together. I think Strikeforce is starting to get that; they’re starting to really develop the 135 division, which does have all of those fighters constantly coming into it. Time remaining on game clock at two-minute warning: over/under 1:58½ 67. Louis is in desperate need of a facelift and a new face of the franchise. But just in case, both our reliable and have strong legs.Honorable Mentions: QB Michael Vick, QB Kevin Kolb, SS Kerry RhodesVick and Kolb would both be upgrades at the QB spot.

The differences require careful attention and a loving honesty if they are ever to be resolved. And the notion of forgiveness needs to find a prominent place in all our thinking, about clashes great and small. At the end of time, says the Christian faith, we can expect to come face to face with our Maker The notion should make us tremble. There is also within that faith, however, an insight of heartbreaking beauty: namely, the belief that, in Jesus’s death on the Cross, all the moral ambiguities of our universe, all the complexities of structures and all human wickedness are met. The wounded hands were outstretched to embrace and bless and forgive. The anger that was hurled at that one human being was enormous – as considerable as the destructive anger of September. But those hurling the anger were loved.Whether or not you share my Christian belief, it’s worth reflecting on this super-heroic moment of forgiveness and its lasting ability to shape hearts and minds. If our society is to become less angry, more tolerant, more pleasing, then an imitation of that quality of forgiveness is going to be needed Without it, only darkness and violence beckon.

I pin my hopes, ultimately, on lines from John’s gospel: “The light shines in darkness and the darkness did not overcome it.” It is in that light that our personal and future hope rests – and it is in that light that forgiveness is truly to be found. The Rt Rev Christopher Herbert is Bishop of St Albans. Late on the night of 11 September, when I was stranded in Long Island, my 10-year-old daughter, Isabel, crept fearfully into her mother’s bed in our apartment in New York. That morning my wife had stood transfixed outside her office a few blocks from the World Trade Centre, as the towers disintegrated. The unavoidable television pictures were of a cataclysm too great for a child’s comprehension.

It was a shifting of the wind from downtown that finally brought the nightmare into our mid-town home. Isabel was puzzled by a “funny smell” that kept her awake and threatened to trigger an asthma attack It was a smell that could not be explained. It was the smell of death. The toxic mix of burning flesh, debris and dust was still in the air in Mayor Giuliani’s office at City Hall, a block away from Ground Zero, when a full six weeks later I went to talk with him. It lingered for so long, as did the questions of the innocent. How could it be said, Isabel kept asking, that the people who did this believe in God? Was there another God?The events of 11 September 2001 have been harder for us to explain to Isabel and George, who is 15 and was away at an upstate school, than anything in their lives, because we don’t understand it ourselves.

Certainly, it has been incomparably harder than 11 September 1998. It is a mark of how much the axis of all our lives has shifted that the three digits of 9/ll resonate without a defining year, whereas the sensation of 9/11/1998 now no longer seems a date with any claim to live in infamy, as it so luridly did at the time. The date, 11 September 1998, was the climactic day that Ken Starr, the independent prosecutor, sent a vanload of pornography to Congress masquerading as his final report on the Clinton-Lewinsky relationship. That particular 9/ll was a trigger pulled for the first impeachment of a president in nearly 200 years – and it was the end of privacy. The failure of Starr and the television networks to wrap it all up in brown paper gave parents no room for retreat into elegant euphemism. But in the end the questions were answerable because they turned on love and appetite, truth and falsehood, and trust and betrayal, human impulses we all know, whereas the hate that inspires the indiscriminate mass murderer is profane and unknowable. There is no patience these days for the politics of scandal. Clinton is being reborn, for reasons I will come to, his ill-starred exit forgotten by all except the Wall Street Journal and the radio phone-ins. Partisanship is dead, too, though only as dead as Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction.

What do Steph Cook, Nicole Cook, Trina Gulliver, Kate Brown, Charlotte Cornwallis, Lisa Adams, Alex Coomber, Anna Hemmings and Helen Gilby have in common? All are British, and all are world champions, in a variety of sports ranging from modern pentathlon to canoeing. And all, plus a whole host of others of both sexes, did not even get the time of day from the BBC in the recent Sports Personality of the Year Awards. “She is so good, it is frightening to think what she could do if she sticks at it,” said her coach, the former British international Gary Sykes, at the time.Well, stuck at it she has, and in the immortal words of Muhammad Ali, she “shook up the world” in the ritualistic form of a martial artistry that translates from Korean as “the way of the fist and the foot”. Last month she put both in, with considerable effect, venturing deep into the backyard of the sport to become the world senior women’s middleweight champion, the first Briton to win a taekwondo medal. On the tiny island of Jeju just off the Korean mainland, the now 18-year-old Stevenson beat, successively, a Malaysian, a Tongan, and then “the biggie”, the Korean champion in the quarter-finals. The crowd were stunned into silence, unbelieving that their heroine could fall to a westerner.

Stevenson’s semi-final victory came over the European and World Cup champion, from Belarus “She was tall and her legs were massive She was hard and awkward.”But not hard and awkward enough. In the final Stevenson found herself down by four points to nil in the first round against China’s all-action female version of Mike Tyson, Chen Zhong, who had won the Olympic heavyweight title “I thought, ’someone help me, tell me what to do’. But I told myself I hadn’t come all that way to let her beat me by that sort of margin.”So I got stuck in, and by the end of the third I had pulled up to 4-5. She seemed to panic, I didn’t think she could believe she was being given a hard time by a Brit.”Stevenson ended up winning 10-7, and left Korea clutching a medal, a certificate and a cuddly toy.”It’s been an amazing year for me, really. I’d been working full time as a secretary for a local estate agent after returning from the Olympics, because I’d no more Lottery funding, and I didn’t think I’d have much chance of winning. Maybe I was more relaxed about things, not putting the sort of pressure on myself that I usually do.

I just had a go.”Her Korean odyssey has given her the incentive to go prospecting for Olympic gold in Athens. She quit her job last week to resume full- time training again with the All Stars club at the Doncaster Dome, where hundreds of local kids have followed her into the sport. As a world champion she should qualify for top Lottery funding but, in another of those bureaucratic nonsenses which bedevil British sport, infuriatingly large lengths of red tape remain to be unravelled.Meanwhile she is being sponsored by several local companies. “I could not have got this far without all those people who have helped me.” These include her parents, whose car-boot sales partially funded her Olympic dream.”The Olympics gave her such inner strength and self-belief,” says coach Sykes. “As far as the Koreans are concerned she’s turned into a bit of a taekwondo legend.”Taekwondo is an amalgam of karate, kung-fu and kick-boxing, with points scored by two-fisted punching, to the body only, though a kick in the teeth is acceptable. If pressed, Stevenson could probably do the party trick of breaking bricks and boards with her bare hands (that, at least might have turned them on at the gimmick-driven Beeb) but the girl who’d like to become a child psychologist when she hangs up her headguard is satisfied with having broken the mould..

What is true is that the Opposition is not in quite such a bad way as seemed likely either at the general election or at the accession of Mr Duncan Smith. It may be unkind to point this out, but he looks reasonably good partly because Mr William Hague was so very bad.No doubt if they sat down and took a three- hour examination on the British Constitution and Current Affairs, Mr Hague would be top. But politics has never been about this kind of exercise, not even in less meretricious times Mr Hague’s error was, perhaps, to think it was. For instance, he was widely credited with getting the better of Mr Tony Blair at Prime Minister’s Questions. But this did not seem to be putting any cash in the bank with the voters Why was this?, I wondered. Was it that the House of Commons no longer mattered – that the view, which Macmillan was fond of expounding, that what happened in the Chamber filtered outwards by a mysterious process of political osmosis was the merest sentimentality? Probably it was.

But then I thought: well, no one talked like Mr Hague even long ago His was the unmodified manner of the Oxford Union Then there was the voice. As Mr Max Clifford (whose views in this area are not lightly to be disregarded) said recently, it was Mr Hague’s voice – harsh, monotonous, somehow hectoring – which put people off rather than his appearance.Mr Duncan Smith is often described as a “typical ex-Guards officer” with a “cut-glass accent” I am afraid I cannot see this myself. He is clearly a rum customer and no mistake, quite apart from a semi-oriental appearance deriving from a Japanese great-grandmother. He is the son of an RAF pilot who was educated at a naval school – as far as I can see, it was virtually a reformatory – and who then served in the army. He did not, as he suggests, attend the university of Perugia, but the English language school attached to it. He reminds me rather of those characters I would come across during my more adventurous days in the bars north of Oxford Street and west of the Tottenham Court Road. After striking up the slightest of acquaintances they would ask:”I say old man, could you possibly oblige me with a tenner to tide me over the weekend?” If the request was being complied with – unlikely where I was concerned – and they detected a full wallet, they would add: “I say, would you mind terribly making that twenty?”I wondered about the fictional character he reminded me of: Arthur Atwater in Evelyn Waugh’s Work Suspended came nearest. And yet, despite – perhaps because of – these characteristics, Mr Duncan Smith seems to be more sympathetic to the voters than Mr Hague ever was.

He is as effective a parliamentary performer too: perhaps better, in that he knows when to rest his case and not appear smug or bullying by pressing his advantage. On Wednesday he left Mr Blair discomposed over the fraudulent handling of hospital waiting lists simply by stating the facts and leaving it at that.He has had the courage to break with the Government over Northern Ireland by – in my opinion, rightly – opposing parliamentary space for Mr Gerry Adams and Mr Martin McGuinness when they refuse to take their parliamentary seats. One would not have thought it would take much courage to do this. But so it does in the present damp climate of opinion, when anything remotely inconvenient to the IRA is portrayed as opposition to the “Peace Process”.

In the same way, Mr Blunkett excised any reference to the IRA from his Prevention of Terrorism Act, as I call it for brevity’s sake. The Conservatives sided with Mr Blair’s big battalions over most of the provisions in this statute. If we are slightly more free than we would have been if he and Mr Blunkett had had their way completely, we owe it to the Lords rather than to the Conservatives in the Commons. Even so, Mr Blunkett’s opponent, Mr Oliver Letwin, did not want the Home Secretary to have everything he asked for, and worried him on several occasions It was a fine performance. When Mr Letwin was given a gong in the Spectator Parliamentarian of the Year awards last November, I had my doubts. I thought he was a typical Cambridge High-Tory tomfool, educated out of his wits I also knew he had been a part-inventor of the poll tax No matter.

The message they seek to convey is clear: we have our feet on the ground, practising what we preach by ignoring the lure of an ?tist education at a private school. Occasionally Mr Blair chooses to give his family a public profile unrelated to a specific policy. Last year’s Christmas card was not the only occasion when the media got a glimpse of Leo.There are other times when a political leader has to accept that his family is of legitimate public interest when he would prefer it not to be. He cannot pick the moments when the lights are switched on and off. The lights shine with greatest legitimacy when there is a direct link between government policy and the personal conduct of the political leader running the Government Mr Blair knows this to be the case from his own experience.

When he sent one of his sons to the Oratory, a school that had opted out of local-authority control, there was a political row. Mr Blair’s protests that this was a family matter did not even convince his Press Secretary, Alastair Campbell, who was appalled at the decision. At the time, Labour Party policy was opposed to schools opting out of local-authority control Mr Blair resolved the matter by changing the policy. What he could not do was insist unconvincingly that it was an entirely private matter. He is trying to make that case now, even less convincingly, over whether young Leo has been give the MMR injection.

The Department of Health has launched a campaign to persuade parents that their children should receive the injection. The Health minister, Yvette Cooper, has said that her children will have the MMR injection; but, as we report on the front page, the Department of Health is having problems convincing parents Mr Blair’s silence is part of the department’s problem It conveys Prime Ministerial doubt about MMR. The persistent refusal to reveal their decision will nurture a wider suspicion that the Blairs decided not to follow the advice of the Prime Minister’s own health department Mr Blair should come clean. His family deserves as much privacy as possible, but not when his actions as a parent may conflict with the policies of his government..
